Take the Power Back! Weekend Storytelling Intensive with Jamie Campbell

August 12, 2018 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

This is a 2-day workshop on August 11 & 12 from 2:00pm-4:00pm

Jamie Campbell has learned first-hand how telling your own harrowing story can make an impact on both storyteller and audience. It took him over 25 years to tell the story of being kidnapped as an 11 year-old, and it turned out to be one of the most rewarding experiences of his life. After the overwhelming reaction he received from his one man show, The Devil on the Wall or, That Time I Got Kidnapped, he wanted to give the same experience to others. He created Take The Power Back – a workshop for anyone with a story to tell – from professional performers to those who have never spoken in public.

Moments of trauma, embarrassment, and vulnerability are the most difficult to tell, but are also have the greatest payoff. Take the Power Back is designed to help students tell stories they never thought they could – in a way that makes an impact on everyone in the room. Relating your own harrowing memories can be empowering, uplifting, and enable the audience to connect to you in a deep, meaningful way.

Students will workshop their stories in a judgment-free environment designed to help them relate their past with distance and levity. The class culminates in a student performance, hosted by Jamie Campbell, where participants will have the opportunity to share their stories in front of a live audience and have the option to be featured on the forthcoming Take the Power Back podcast, connecting their voices to others all over who need to hear them.
