For those who couldn’t attend the April 17 Quarterly All Hands Meeting, here’s a comprehensive summary of what was discussed, including key updates, announcements, and action items to keep you informed and involved.
Performer Opportunities
- Thunderdome Workshop May 4: This is an opportunity for stage time for anyone who has completed Level One Improv. Take the workshop and you can be considered for the monthly Thunderdome show!
- SG Throwdown: Returning this summer and submissions will open soon! This year teams participating must have a coach and hold regular practices.
- Incubator is happening in June and July! This is a FREE opportunity to practice with a coach weekly and then have a run of four shows. Info coming soon in the Student Newsletter!
- There will be House Team and Musical House Team Auditions: in August. Date is TBD and you’ll be the first to know!
Volunteer Opportunities
- Tech Volunteer Training: We are looking for 2-3 more volunteers for the Tech Team—commitment is just one night per month, and training will be provided. If interested you can email Chris at chris@stompinggroundcomedy.org.
- New Volunteer Role: A job posting and application are being created for a House Team Coordinator volunteer role. You will get free classes (as space is available) and free admission to all shows; and you’ll be on the team! More details coming soon!
- April is Volunteer Appreciation Month! Official volunteer recognition is in the works for North Texas Giving Day on September 18.
Upcoming Events & Shows
- Kevin McDonald (Kids in the Hall) will return for workshops, possibly including a rock opera theme. Tentative dates: September 20–21.
- ¡Escándalo!- The Improvised Telenovela, visiting from Austin, will perform May 23–24 at SG.
- SG Birthday Bash! A birthday celebration is happening on May 30 and you’re invited. Get the details here.
- SG Awards (October): The annual awards event will now be held in October. The tentative date is October 18 so save it in your calendar!
Reminders
- Want to be in a Show? Just a reminder to express interest in teams or shows rather than directly asking, “Can I be in your show?”; a request like that can put the Director/Coach/Producer in an uncomfortable position.
- New Sound System- A new system has been installed and it’s awesome! Thank you to Brooks, Justin, and Steve Childers for their work installing the new system. It has improved sound greatly.
- New Tech Policy: All show-related tech requests beyond the regular lights up and down (music, lights, etc.) must be submitted at least 24 hours in advance to the appropriate tech for your show or to sgtechbooth@gmail.com to be considered.
- Communicating with Tech: Strong, early communication with the tech team is essential—over-communicate and avoid last-minute requests. Do not talk to them while they are in the booth working a show.
- Team Communication: All coaches, teachers, and producers should prioritize communicating show details (call times, dress guidelines, etc.) clearly with their teams. Lindsay can’t communicate with all of our hundreds of performers, but they do come to her when they don’t have the information they need. So please make sure you’re trickling down information and communicating with your teams, show casts, and student performers. Coaches, producers, and teachers should maintain consistent and open communication with team members.
- Theater Space Protocols: Please do not move furniture or redecorate the space without prior approval. All props and equipment should be returned to their designated locations.
- Community Promotion: Use the bulletin board to share non-Stomping Ground events and to promote yourself.
- AI Generated Graphics- Try to avoid using AI-generated graphics—please seek help from professional or community graphic designers. Dani Singleton, a community member, has offered their services.
- Backstage Page- The backstage page on the SG website remains the go-to for scheduling, policies, and resources.
- A new church group, Mercy Culture, is subleasing space from Upper Room. Please report any parking issues related to their presence to Lindsay
Thank you to everyone who attended the meeting. See you at the next All-Hands in August!
