Stand Up Comedy: Writing & Performing Stand Up Comedy

Learn to write and perform original stand up material!

This seven week course will focus on the writing and performing of stand up comedy. Students will learn to use joke structures and other tools to create their own material, culminating in an original five minute stand up set. The second half of this class will focus on revising and performing their set as part of a stand up showcase for family & friends. There is no prerequisite for this writing intensive course.

This course will focus on:

  • What is stand up (and what is not)
  • Joke Structure
  • Premises, metaphors, and simile
  • Learning to be comfortable by yourself on stage
  • Adding Act Outs to your material
  • Creating a set list
  • Pitching jokes & new material
  • Writing and performing your five minute set

This is a 7 week recurring in-person course held Thursdays, 7-9:30pm starting Thursday, October 24th. This class skips 10/28 for Thanksgiving break. The instructor is David Parsons. All sales are final. Listed price of class does not include Eventbrite’s service fee (3.7% + $1.79) and payment processing fee (2.9%) which will be added to the total price at checkout. Classes are non-refundable but enrollment may be deferred to a future class with TCD approval. All students must adhere to policies in the Stomping Ground Student Handbook. Must be 18 years or older.
