The JTS Brown form was developed by a long form improv team of the same name in the 90s and is one of the more unique and freeing performance formats for the improviser. Often referred to as the “formless form” or “more a philosophy than form,” this style of improv is known for its fluid and dream-like logic and use of physical transformations within and between scenes, leading to each show feeling one-of-a-kind.
In this seven-week class, students will learn the skills needed to immerse themselves in the show, to be more supportive on stage, to follow the fun of the scene, and develop a brand new perspective to how they approach improv. This class includes a run of shows. The prerequisite for this class is Level Five Improv at Stomping Ground or permission from the Training Center Director.
Topics in this Course:
- Leaning Into Physicality, Sound, and Environment
- Organic edits and transformations
- Weaving Individual Scenes into the Show as a Whole
- Making Moves to Support the Ensemble’s Ideas
- Performing and Refining the Show and Format
