Now that we’ve had time to rest and recover from the show, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on a great night. Our goal for our Inaugural Laughing Matters Comedy Benefit Show was to raise funds while also giving DFW a sample of what our theater and training center will have to offer, and I think we can safely say we did just that.
Our inaugural show was completely sold out thanks to the generosity and support of our friends, family, and DFW comedy fans, and with their help we raised over $4000.
The night featured standup by the hilarious Latrice Allen and Aaron Aryanpur and Stomping Ground’s resident Mental Health Advocate and standup comedian (a rare title) Brandon Davidson.
There was also short form, Whose Line-esque short form improv by the Stomping Ground Creative Team and later a longer, more free form piece full of monologues and songs by the same gang.
We must thank everyone who made the evening possible, including our volunteers Jacie Hood Wenzel, Jamey Whitley, Leslie Patrick, Amanda Anthis, and Ashlie Kirkpatrick; Carley Stewart and Nick Patronella for holding down lights and sound and making us look and sound positively lovely; Jordan and Anastasia at AMOC for being wonderful to work with (we cannot recommend AMOC enough if you are holding an event); and of course, our Board of Directors for their guidance and expertise.
We must also thank a few people who donated their time, talents, or cash to help us pull off a great evening- Curtis Clinesmith, Lewisville Autoplex, and Kimberly’s K9 Fitness & Spa all donated goods or services for the event.
The evening was captured beautifully thanks to Michael K Bruner, whose talents are never-ending and are only matched by his support of our cause.
It was a great night of comedy that got us closer to opening our theater and training center. Thanks again to everyone who attended for making the evening a success.
